House Bill 1208 Summary

• All state public works projects must be designed, constructed, operated, and maintained to achieve maximum energy efficiency on a cost-effective basis, considering full life-cycle construction and operating costs.

• The Indiana Department of Administration must develop design standards for new state buildings requiring analysis of cost-effectiveness for achieving energy efficiency through LEED silver rating, Green Globes two-globe rating, EPA Energy Star, or equivalent accredited standards.

• Repair or renovation of existing state buildings must achieve maximum energy efficiency on a cost-effective basis while assigning value to historic and aesthetic characteristics and locally sourced materials.

• Indiana hardwood lumber must be considered for use in all state public works projects as a local source material where practicable.

• The bill becomes effective July 1, 2014, and amends Indiana Code Chapter 13-27-9.
