House Bill 1240 Summary

• Requires that inmate trust fund balances paid by warrant or non-cash instrument that remain uncashed for six months revert to the county jail commissary.

• Allows inmates or their legal guardians to request reissuance of reverted payments from the jail commissary at any time, and requires the sheriff to comply with such requests.

• Mandates that sheriffs maintain permanent records of all payments that have reverted to the jail commissary.

• Applies to all counties that operate a county jail in Indiana.

• Effective July 1, 2014.
