House Bill 1250 Summary

• Prohibits employees of participating units in fire protection territories and volunteer firefighters serving those territories from serving on boards or committees that govern, budget, or oversee fire protection territories (effective January 1, 2015).

• Allows elected officials of participating units to be appointed to these boards or committees by their respective units, exempting them from the general prohibition.

• Requires that when a fire protection territory includes unincorporated territory and at least one municipality, the governing board or committee must include at least one member who resides in the unincorporated territory.

• Applies to all boards and committees established before January 1, 2015, or after December 31, 2015.

• Amends Indiana Code sections IC 3-5-9-4 and IC 36-8-19-6.4.
