IN HB1284

Amends Indiana Code to require seven state educational institutions (Ball State University, Indiana State University, Indiana University, Ivy Tech Community College, Purdue University, University of Southern Indiana, and Vincennes University) to comply with municipal historic preservation ordinances and rules when their property is located within a historic preservation district.

Mandates that municipalities' historic preservation commissions must issue a certificate of appropriateness before state educational institutions may demolish, move, or change the exterior of buildings, or construct new buildings or structures on affected property.

Applies only to real property, buildings, and structures located within historic preservation districts established under IC 36-7-11, IC 36-7-11.1, or prior law.

Creates new sections in Indiana Code (IC 36-7-4-1104.5, IC 36-7-11-3.5, IC 36-7-11.1-7.5, and IC 36-7-11.1-7.5) to implement the historic preservation requirements across different regulatory frameworks.

Effective date: July 1, 2014.
