HB 1305 Summary

• Requires the fire prevention and building safety commission to adopt rules incorporating the 2010 edition of NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code) into Indiana Administrative Code by July 1, 2014.

• Permits the commission to amend NFPA 72 as appropriate, provided final rules include definitions and requirements for managed facilities-based voice networks (MFVN) and public switched telephone networks (PSTN).

• Allows digital alarm communicator systems using MFVN to transmit fire alarm signals to offsite monitoring facilities, subject to NFPA 72 requirements.

• If the commission fails to adopt compliant rules by July 1, 2014, NFPA 72 definitions and requirements for MFVN and PSTN are automatically incorporated into the administrative code and supersede conflicting state regulations.

• Persons installing or using MFVN-based digital alarm communicator systems that meet NFPA 72 standards after June 30, 2014 are not required to obtain a commission variance.
