SB 19 Summary

• Amends Indiana Code sections 31-39-1-1 and 31-39-2-1 regarding juvenile court record confidentiality, effective July 1, 2014.

• Exempts records involving paternity, custody, parenting time, and child support proceedings concerning children born to unmarried parents from mandatory confidentiality requirements.

• Removes the restriction on access without court order for these same categories of family law proceedings involving children of unmarried parents.

• Specifies that legal records subject to the chapter include chronological case summaries, index entries, summonses, warrants, petitions, orders, motions, and decrees.

• Received favorable recommendation from Senate Committee on Judiciary with 9-0 vote on January 9, 2014.
