HB 1331 - Elimination of Township Boards

• Abolishes township boards in Indiana on a staggered timeline: January 1, 2015 for boards with members elected in 2010, and January 1, 2017 for boards with members elected in 2012.

• Transfers all fiscal and legislative powers of township boards to the county fiscal body after abolishment, including authority to adopt township budgets and levy township property taxes.

• Updates statutory references throughout Indiana Code to designate the county fiscal body as the fiscal and legislative body for townships after abolishment, replacing the township board.

• Preserves validity of all resolutions, fees, schedules, and appointments made by township boards before abolishment.

• Exempts township budgets adopted by the county fiscal body after abolishment from standard review procedures under IC 6-1.1-17-3.5.
