HB 1353 Summary

• Expands minority student teaching stipend eligibility to include students participating in school administration internships as part of graduate degree programs, in addition to traditional student teaching
• Requires applicants to be minority students with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale upon entering student teaching or internship
• Establishes stipend amounts based on GPA: $5,000 maximum for students with GPA of 3.5 or higher, and $4,000 maximum for students with GPA between 3.0 and 3.5
• Commission directly pays stipends to approved students after they demonstrate they will engage in student teaching or school administration internship during the upcoming academic term
• Effective July 1, 2014
