HB 1412 Summary

• Establishes a goal that by 2025 every public school will have at least one teacher certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

• Creates the teachers' national board certification incentive fund to provide $200 per day stipends (2 days) for teachers preparing for certification and reimburse 75% of certification fees.

• Provides an annual $2,000 salary supplement for the life of the certificate to teachers who attain national board certification on or after July 1, 2014.

• Requires school corporations to allow teachers pursuing certification at least 5 days of paid released time during the school year and reimburse them for substitute teacher costs.

• Establishes stipends for national board certified teachers who serve as mentors and authorizes the state board to adopt rules implementing the program.
