The Indiana General Assembly supports amending the U.S. Constitution to establish that corporations are not "people" and only natural persons are endowed with Constitutional rights.

The resolution opposes the 2010 Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, which held that corporations have the same free speech protections as natural persons and that independent political expenditures by corporations cannot be limited.

The amendment should establish that money is not "speech" and therefore regulating political contributions and spending is not equivalent to limiting political speech.

The proposed amendment should not be construed to abridge the freedom of the press.

The House Principal Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of the resolution to members of the Indiana Congressional delegation.
