Born September 30, 1942, in LaPorte County, Tom Nowatzke is honored as a legendary football player and hometown hero from Michigan City, Indiana.

Named Indiana University's Most Valuable Player in 1963 while playing running back, linebacker, and placekicker, and set an Indiana University record with 73 points scored.

Selected as first round pick by both the NFL's Detroit Lions and AFL's New York Jets in the 1965 pro football drafts, played five seasons with the Lions before being traded to the Baltimore Colts in 1970.

Served as the Colts' leading rusher in Super Bowl V and scored the game-tying touchdown in the Colts' 16-13 victory over the Dallas Cowboys; inducted into both the Indiana Football Hall of Fame and Indiana University Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Indiana General Assembly congratulates Nowatzke on his outstanding football career and wishes him continued success in all his endeavors.
