Indiana House of Representatives recognizes the Bill Johnson Film Festival and its value to the community

William L. Johnson, a Gary native and Emerson School for Visual and Performing Arts graduate, hosts the festival dedicated to his name and aims to reinvest earnings into urban community advancement and self-reliance programs

Johnson has appeared in more than 20 film projects including "Blue Hill Avenue" (which won top honors at Acapulco and Black Hollywood Film Festivals), "Motives 2," "The Mannsfield 12," and "Crossover"

Festival attendees include award-winning filmmakers JoAnna Rhambo (founder of Hazel Honey Films in 2011) and Reggie Gaskins, whose independent films "The Lying Truth" and "Restraining Order" have won awards

Principal Clerk of the House shall transmit copies of the resolution to African American Achievers Youth Corps, Inc., and William L. Johnson
