Marjorie "Margie" Frances Nackenhorst, known as the unofficial mayor of Garfield Park, died at age 94 and was born December 12, 1919, in Frankfort.

Margie secured two new tennis courts, repaved six existing courts with lighting installed for all eight courts, and obtained repair of a swimming pool in Garfield Park.

Margie advocated for a fire station in Garfield Park and worked with city police to remove teenage cruisers from the park; she also led volunteer cleanups pulling weeds and picking up trash.

Margie picketed every Saturday afternoon for over two years to eliminate an adult bookstore near her home and lobbied against Sunday liquor sales and parimutuel betting in the 1970s.

The Indiana House of Representatives expresses deepest sympathy to her family, recognizes her contributions to Garfield Park and the surrounding community, and directs the Principal Clerk to transmit copies of the resolution to her family.
