SB 20 Summary

• Amends Indiana Code to allow proprietary educational institutions to qualify as "approved postsecondary educational institutions" for higher education awards if they are domiciled in Indiana with principal offices and majority of operations there.

• Requires qualifying proprietary institutions to offer an organized two-year or longer program of collegiate level classes directly creditable toward a baccalaureate degree.

• Requires qualifying proprietary institutions to be authorized by the board for proprietary education and accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.

• Allows students attending qualifying proprietary institutions to receive higher education awards at the same level as students attending state educational institutions.

• Effective July 1, 2014.
