Senate Enrolled Act No. 44 Summary

• The state department of health and office of the secretary of family and social services shall establish a work group to study health data sharing, access, and integration issues.

• Work group must examine patient consent for information sharing, public health integration into health care, patient and caregiver access to health data, health information technology use, and uniform electronic health data access for Indiana providers.

• Work group shall identify potential opportunities to use health data to improve health outcomes, increase efficiency and cost effectiveness in Medicaid, and facilitate entrepreneurial uses of health data.

• The state department must submit written findings and cost estimates for all recommendations to the legislative council by August 1, 2014.

• This section expires December 31, 2014; an emergency is declared for the act.
