SB 55 Summary

• Amends Indiana Code IC 9-29-10-2 to restrict driver's license reinstatement fee waivers for incarcerated persons

• Inmates in state or political subdivision correctional facilities cannot file petitions for fee waivers if they have more than 120 days remaining before earliest possible release date

• Allows indigent persons to petition criminal courts of record in their county of residence for reinstatement fee waivers, subject to the new inmate restriction

• Court clerk must forward petitions to the county prosecuting attorney and motor vehicle bureau, with prosecutors able to appear and be heard on the petition

• Effective July 1, 2014
