Senate Bill 145 Summary

• School corporations may only participate in interscholastic athletics associations if the association allows physical examinations to be administered by either a physician licensed in Indiana or a bordering state, or an advanced practice nurse licensed under IC 25-23.

• Physical examinations required for student participation in athletic events conducted, organized, sanctioned, or sponsored by an association may be performed by either a physician or an advanced practice nurse.

• School bus driver physical examination certificates may be administered by either a physician licensed in Indiana or a bordering state, or an advanced practice nurse licensed under IC 25-23.

• The school bus driver or prospective driver chooses and pays for the physical examination.

• Effective date: July 1, 2014.
