Senate Bill No. 157 Summary

• Replaces the commission for a drug free Indiana's membership with members of the criminal justice institute board of trustees appointed by the board chairman.

• Eliminates the requirement for the commission to establish an interagency council on drugs and instead requires coordination of alcohol and drug program responsibilities among state agencies, commissions, and boards.

• Requires each local coordinating council to assess county needs for alcohol and drug abuse plans and identify goals and priorities, with county auditors annually appropriating all drug free community fund money to local councils.

• Authorizes the commission to freeze county drug free community funds if local councils fail to comply with commission policies or if funds are misappropriated.

• Prohibits use of county drug free community funds for purchasing real estate or constructing, maintaining, or furnishing structures; effective July 1, 2014.
