Senate Bill No. 195 Summary

• Adds definition of "state immunization registry" referring to the immunization data registry maintained by the state department of health under IC 16-38-5.

• Repeals requirement that schools provide students and parents information about meningococcal disease and removes requirement that schools provide female students with information about the link between cervical cancer and HPV infection.

• Requires health care providers (not just physicians) who administer vaccines to students to enter each immunization into the state immunization registry instead of providing paper certificates.

• Requires state department of health to publish a two-year calendar of immunization requirements and recommendations by November 30 each year, with changes prohibited except in extreme situations unless recommendations were published at least 20 months prior.

• Changes school immunization reporting from individual written reports to the state department obtaining aggregate immunization status data by accessing the state immunization registry; removes authority for state department to sue schools for non-compliance.

• Effective July 1, 2014.
