Senate Bill 243 Summary

• Reclassifies materials, compounds, mixtures, or preparations containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine as Schedule III controlled substances requiring prescription for dispensal effective July 1, 2014.

• Repeals the law that allowed over-the-counter sale of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine products subject to purchase limits and tracking requirements.

• Eliminates related definitions and provisions from Indiana Code including "constant video monitoring," "convenience package," "suspicious order," and "unusual theft" related to non-prescription ephedrine/pseudoephedrine sales.

• Amends IC 10-13-3-40 to remove funding authority for maintaining an electronic log to record drug sales containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine.

• Repeals IC 34-30-2-152.3 and seven definitional provisions from IC 35-31.5-2 that were specific to the now-eliminated non-prescription sales framework.
