SB 279 Summary

• Establishes resident tuition rate eligibility for individuals who attended an Indiana high school for at least three years and graduated from or received a high school diploma equivalent in Indiana.

• Applies to individuals registering as entering students or currently enrolled in a state educational institution beginning fall semester 2014-2015 academic year or later.

• Excludes nonimmigrant aliens as defined under 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(15) from eligibility for resident tuition rates.

• Requires individuals to execute a verification under penalty of perjury stating they are either a United States citizen or qualified alien, and are not applying for other state, local, or federal public benefits beyond the resident tuition rate.

• Requires verification documentation to be maintained for at least five years and becomes effective July 1, 2014.
