SB 286 Summary

• Allows individuals whose drug convictions have been expunged to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits as if the conviction never occurred.

• Applies to felony convictions involving possession or use of controlled substances (excluding distribution or manufacturing offenses) that have been expunged under IC 35-38-9.

• Replaces all references to "food stamps" with "federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program" throughout the Indiana Code for technical clarity.

• Effective July 1, 2014.
