Senate Bill 317 Summary

• Prohibits persons convicted of voting-related offenses under Indiana Code chapter 3-14-2 from being employed by the state or any unit of local government (county, municipality, or township) for three years.

• Automatically terminates employment of currently employed individuals on the date of sentencing if they are convicted of a voting-related offense.

• Allows sentencing courts to suspend or modify the employment prohibition and/or automatic termination if the court finds the person committed the offense because they reasonably feared employment-related retaliation.

• Effective July 1, 2014.
