Indiana General Assembly honors Dr. Patrick O'Meara, a scholar of international development, comparative politics, and African politics who served in higher education for over four decades

Dr. O'Meara served at Indiana University starting in 1960 in multiple roles including faculty of the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Director of the African Studies Program, Dean of International Programs, and first Vice President for International Affairs

Led creation of Indiana University's first international strategic plan, one of the first such plans nationally, contributing to IU ranking second in the nation for international partnership grants

Received international honors including the Cross of Saint George (Spain), Warsaw University Medal, Amicus Poloniae (Poland), honorary doctorate from Thailand's National Institute of Development University, and Gold Medal Cross of Merit of the Republic of Hungary

Secretary of the Senate directed to transmit copies of the resolution to Dr. O'Meara, IU President Michael A. McRobbie, IU Office of International Services, and IU Center for the Study of Global Change
