Joseph Hilty of Portland, Indiana, a student at East Jay County Middle School, was named a top youth volunteer in the 19th annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Joseph earned recognition for sending care packages to United States troops to show appreciation for their military service.

After sending his first package, Joseph established a lemonade stand to increase awareness and fundraising, which resulted in the community raising $11,000 and sending more than 300 care packages to military personnel.

The Indiana Senate honors Joseph Hilty for his volunteer service and thanks him for his dedication to serving United States troops.

The Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit copies of this resolution to Joseph Hilty and East Jay County Middle School Principal M. Lee Newman.
