IN HB1458

Amends IC 31-11-6-1 to authorize ministers or members of the clergy of religious organizations to solemnize marriages, including those who do not perform religious functions for a congregation.

Expands authorized marriage solemnizers to include specific religious leaders such as ministers of the gospel, priests, bishops, archbishops, rabbis, and imams of masjids.

Adds specific religious organizations authorized to solemnize marriages according to their respective rules: German Baptists, Bahai faith, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and Islamic practitioners.

Maintains existing authorization for judges, mayors, city/town clerks, clerk-treasurers, circuit court clerks, and the Friends Church to solemnize marriages.

Takes effect upon passage with an emergency declaration.
