School corporations must include 15 specified historical writings, documents, and records in American history and social studies curriculum, including the U.S. Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Federalist Papers, and speeches by Frederick Douglass and Chief Seattle.

Principals and teachers may read or post excerpts from any listed writing, document, or record in school buildings, classrooms, or at school events.

School corporations may not censor American history or heritage content based on religious references contained in the listed writings, documents, or records.

School libraries and media centers must maintain at least one copy of each writing or document from the first nine items on the list in their permanent collections.

Students may reference any listed writing, document, or record in reports and other work products without penalty, including without grade reduction.
