West Side Leadership Academy won the 2014 Boys Track and Field State Championship on June 7, 2014, defeating Carmel High School by 2 points (41-39) with a fifth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.

This was the school's first state title since 1980 and sixth overall state championship in boys track and field.

Senior Lonnie Johnson earned the 2014 State Champion title in the long jump event.

Head coach Eugene M. Johnson, who has served at the school since it opened as West Side High School in 1968, along with assistant coaches Ronnie Bond, Steve Harper, and Brandon Wesby guided the team to the state championship.

The Indiana General Assembly congratulates the team and directs the Principal Clerk of the House to transmit a copy of the resolution to team members, coaches, Principal Terrance Little, and Superintendent Dr. Cheryl L. Pruitt.
