Removes prohibitions preventing volunteer firefighters from assuming or holding elected offices in units that receive fire protection services from their department.

Allows full-time, paid firefighters to assume or hold elected office in units other than those receiving fire protection services from their department.

Permits volunteer firefighters who held elected office on January 1, 2013, to continue serving in both roles until their term expires, with ability to run for reelection to the same office.

Grandfathers volunteer firefighters with elected office as of January 1, 2013, allowing them to continue until July 1, 2017, under transitional provisions.

Becomes effective upon passage with emergency declaration.
