SB 339 Summary

• Exempts school bus monitors from visual acuity requirements (20/40 vision in each eye, 150-degree field of vision, and 80% depth perception) that apply to school bus drivers.

• Allows school corporations or school bus drivers to employ individuals under 21 years of age as school bus monitors only if insufficient qualified applicants age 21 or older are available.

• Requires school corporations and school bus drivers to maintain records of job applicants, their ages, and qualifications to demonstrate compliance with age requirement provisions.

• Maintains all other employment requirements for school bus monitors, including good moral character, no substance abuse, and minimum age of 18 years.

• Takes effect July 1, 2015.
