Senate Bill 519 Summary

• Amends Indiana Code 35-41-4-2 to eliminate the statute of limitations for rape prosecutions under IC 35-42-4-1, allowing charges to be filed at any time

• Maintains existing statute of limitations for other felonies: 5 years for Class B, C, D felonies (Level 3-6); 2 years for misdemeanors; and no limitation for Class A felonies (Level 1-2)

• Preserves extended statute of limitations for child sexual abuse offenses, which must be commenced before the victim reaches age 31, or within 10 years of commission for other sex offenses against children

• Effective date: July 1, 2015
