Recognizes Elwood Haynes, who settled in Kokomo in 1892, and brothers Elmer and Edgar Apperson for developing the first mechanically successful gasoline-powered automobile in 1894

Notes the Haynes-Apperson Company was formed in 1898 and that current Kokomo employers in automotive and specialty alloys industries trace their roots to these innovators

References Indiana's significant recent investment in transportation infrastructure, including the U.S. 31 bypass in Howard County
