Indiana General Assembly recognizes Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the first sorority established by African American collegewomen, founded at Howard University in 1908 with 850 chapters internationally.

Indiana hosts 22 Alpha Kappa Alpha chapters on college and university campuses with active alumnae groups throughout the state committed to community service in education, health, economics, arts, and family.

Organization implements service initiatives including Emerging Young Leaders, Alzheimer's disease and caregiver support, mental health, childhood hunger, fiscal responsibility, and environmental ownership programs.

Indiana General Assembly specifically recognizes Central Regional Director Kathy A. Walker-Steele, State Connection Chair Vanessa J. Summers, and members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Day at the Capitol for their community work.

Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Central Regional Director, State Connection Chair, and members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Day at the Capitol.
