Senate Concurrent Resolution: Justice Antonin Scalia Memorial

• Indiana General Assembly memorializes the life and contributions of United States Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who was born March 11, 1936 in Trenton, New Jersey and died February 13, 2016 at age 79.

• Justice Scalia graduated as valedictorian from St. Francis Xavier High School, Georgetown University, and Harvard Law School, where he served as Notes Editor for the Harvard Law Review.

• Scalia was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court by the Senate with a 98-0 vote on September 26, 1986, becoming the nation's first Italian-American Justice, after serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

• Resolution recognizes Scalia's judicial philosophy of strict originalist interpretation of the Constitution, landmark decision in District of Columbia v. Heller on Second Amendment rights, and his active participation in oral arguments.

• Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the United States Supreme Court.
