Number two-ranked Homestead High School defeated fourth-ranked Pike High School 61-54 to win the Class 4A girls basketball state championship.

This marked the first girls basketball state championship for Homestead and the first for head coach Rod Parker, who has spent 16 years at the school.

Karissa McLaughlin led the team with 29 points and 6 assists; Madisen Parker scored 17 points with five 3-point baskets; Jazmyne Geist contributed 8 points and 12 rebounds.

Madisen Parker won the Patricia L. Roy Mental Attitude Award, was selected as Indiana Basketball Coaches Association First Team All-State for 2016, and was the Indiana Class Basketball All Star Classic MVP for 2016.

The Indiana General Assembly congratulates the team on winning the state championship and directs the House Principal Clerk to transmit the resolution to team members, coaches, and school administrators.
