The Indiana General Assembly honors the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps, a youth development program for ages 10 through high school completion established by the Navy League in 1962 at the Department of the Navy's request.

The USNSCC teaches leadership through Navy core principles of honor, courage, and commitment, emphasizing seamanship, good citizenship, moral principles, and drug-free and gang-free lifestyles.

Cadets must be drug, alcohol, and gang-free, attend school full-time, maintain at least a C average, attend 75 percent of drills, and complete coursework to qualify.

The Flying Tigers Squadron, with members in seven Indiana communities, has performed over 1,600 hours of community service including soup kitchen work, pancake breakfasts, and American Legion support.

The organization has grown from 78 members in its first unit to over 380 units today with approximately 9,000 young men and women.
