SB 116 Summary

• Establishes an out of school time program fund to be administered by the Indiana Department of Education for competitively granting funds to expand access to or increase quality of out of school time programs.

• Requires the Department of Education to establish a pilot program providing grants for out of school time programs serving students in grades 5 through 8, with eligibility open to school corporations and nonprofit community-based organizations.

• Eligible programs must address college and career readiness, align with academic standards, be available to students on a free or low-cost basis, and be jointly provided by a school corporation and community-based organization.

• Fund sources include appropriations, gifts and bequests, fees deposited by law, and federal or private grants; unexpended funds do not revert to the general fund.

• Requires the Department of Education to submit annual reports to the governor, budget committee, state board of education, and legislative council before November 1 each year regarding the pilot program.
