Senate Bill No. 244 Summary

• Requires the office of management and budget to conduct a study evaluating the economic impact of drug addiction and drug use in Indiana.

• Office must consult with seven state agencies: Indiana judicial center, state department of health, department of child services, state police department, family and social services administration, state department of education, and department of correction.

• Report must include state spending on drug addiction services, private spending on drug treatment, correctional drug treatment costs, health care costs, workforce productivity losses, federal assistance program impacts, child services expenditures, local government impacts, and syringe exchange program funding.

• Office may contract with outside entities to conduct the study or parts of the study.

• Report must be submitted to the general assembly and governor by June 1, 2018, with the study authorization expiring December 31, 2019.
