Senate Bill No. 374 Summary

• Allows courts to issue educational support orders for children until they reach 23 years of age, effective July 1, 2017.

• Permits parents, guardians, or children to file petitions for educational support until the child becomes 23 years of age.

• Courts must terminate orders for postsecondary educational expenses no later than the date the child becomes 23 years of age.

• Allows parents, guardians, or children whose educational support petitions were previously denied based on age to file subsequent petitions that will be reconsidered on the merits.

• Educational support orders for postsecondary institutions must reduce other child support payments to the custodial parent to avoid duplication of support.
