Carmel High School varsity football team won the 2016 IHSAA Class 6A state championship on November 25, 2016, defeating Center Grove High School 16-13 in overtime at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Junior kicker Conner Coghlan made a 27-yard field goal on Carmel's first overtime play to secure the victory over defending state champion Center Grove.

This is Carmel High School's eighth IHSAA state championship title; the team rebounded from a 2-3 start to the season and was coached by John Hebert in his second season as head coach.

The Indiana General Assembly commends the varsity players, coaches, team managers, student managers, and trainers for their season-long collaborative effort and dedication to the Class 6A state championship.

The Secretary of the Senate shall transmit a copy of the resolution to the Superintendent of Carmel Clay Schools, Principal of Carmel High School, Athletic Director, and Head Coach John Hebert.
