Virginia "Ginny" Nilles is honored for retiring from the Muncie Public Library after 21 years of service.

Nilles obtained a Master of Library Science from the University of Michigan in 1995 and returned to Muncie to care for elderly parents.

Under her leadership, the Muncie Public Library consolidated six buildings into four, reduced operating costs, increased square footage to 70,000 square feet, and cut energy costs by 25 percent through solar panel installation.

The library expanded programs and services including computer classes (1996), community forums on current events, adult reading circles, early literacy programs, and partnerships with Muncie Community Schools to create a unified catalog.

The Indiana State Senate congratulates Virginia Nilles on her retirement and directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit a copy of the resolution to her.
