Irene J. Saucer was born January 10, 1928, in Camp Hill, Alabama, and earned a Bachelor's degree from Wilberforce University and a Master's degree from Indiana State University.

Married William Saucer on September 1, 1951, and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary; had two daughters, Anita and Sharon.

Served as a youth director at Carver Community Center and taught at Stanley Hall Elementary School, Evans Elementary School, and Dexter Elementary School before retiring.

Active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Zeta Zeta Omega chapter) since 1967, the Evansville Retired Teachers Association, Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, and Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, and volunteered with community organizations.

Passed away on January 12, 2017, at age 89, and is survived by her husband William, two daughters, and four grandchildren; the Indiana Senate honors and memorializes her life and directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit a copy of this resolution to her family.
