The Indiana Senate congratulates the Caston Elementary School robotics teams, "RoboComets" and "MegaComets," on qualifying for the 2017 VEX IQ World Robotics Championship held April 23-25, 2017, in Louisville, Kentucky.

On January 21, 2017, Caston's teams placed first in both "programming and skills" and "team collaboration" categories against 14 other regional teams, qualifying them for the state competition in February 2017.

The robotics teams are coached by 5th grade teacher Teresa Button, retired Caston High School math teacher Bob Uhrich, and parent engineer Roger Byrum, and will compete at the World Championship against schools from the United States, Spain, China, Japan, and Australia.

Students in the robotics program have developed computer coding and mechanical skills, and gained teamwork, problem-solving, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) knowledge.

The Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Caston Schools Superintendent Cindy Douglass, Principal Katie Miller, the three coaches, and all members of both robotics teams.
