Native of Indianapolis, Pastor Johnson graduated from Arlington High School, earned a bachelor of arts degree in religion from Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, and attended Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, receiving five honorary doctorate degrees.

Became pastor of Eastern Star Church in 1988 at age 24; grew congregation from 500 members at one location to over 17,000 members across three locations with more than 80 employees and 40 active ministries.

Created ROCK initiative to build community in the 46218 neighborhood through affordable housing development, financial security programs, and educational opportunities; established Eastern Star Church Care Center for outreach and missions.

Established three church plants: New Life Worship Center (August 2001), New Beginnings Fellowship Church (March 2004), and New Horizons Fellowship Church (September 2006); founded Kingdom Word Ministries in August 2007 and published seven books.

Served as assistant chaplain of the Indiana Pacers and on numerous community boards; married to Sharon Henry Johnson with four sons; Indiana General Assembly thanks him for his dedicated service to the community and State of Indiana.
