Union Benefica Mexicana (U.B.M.) became a not-for-profit organization in November 1956 through the merger of three organizations: Benito Juarez, Cautemoc Association, and Latin Steel Workers.

U.B.M. has sponsored youth activities including folkloric dance groups, boxing teams, Little League teams, and soccer teams in northwest Indiana for over 60 years.

U.B.M. sponsors the Mexican Independence Day Parade for more than 60 years, one of the oldest parades in northwest Indiana, commemorating Mexico's independence from Spain on September 16, 1810.

Organization has advocated against discrimination, championed education, promoted equal employment opportunities, and assisted during natural disasters in the northwest Indiana community.

Indiana House of Representatives recognizes U.B.M. for its contributions to northwest Indiana and directs the Principal Clerk to transmit a copy of the resolution to the organization's leadership.
