Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was founded at Howard University on November 17, 1911, as the first international fraternal organization founded on a historically black college campus.

The fraternity is guided by four principles: "Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift" and derives its name from a Greek phrase meaning "friendship is essential to the soul."

Omega Psi Phi operates internationally mandated programs including Achievement Week, Scholarship initiatives, Social Action, Talent Hunt, College Endowment Fund (contributing at least $50,000 annually to historically black colleges and universities), Health Initiatives, and Voter Registration activities.

Sixteen Indiana chapters of Omega Psi Phi operate across the state in cities including Gary, Indianapolis, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Lafayette, Kokomo, Muncie, Bloomington, Notre Dame, and Terre Haute.

The Indiana House of Representatives acknowledges the contributions made to the state and nation by Omega Psi Phi members and directs transmission of the resolution to the fraternity and its 10th District representative.
