SB 287 Summary

• Permits voters to register on election day at the polls by completing a voter registration form, providing an affirmation they have not voted elsewhere in the election, and presenting acceptable proof of residence.

• Acceptable proof of residence includes a current valid photo identification, utility bills or government documents showing name and address, or a sworn affidavit from another registered voter in the precinct.

• Election-day registrants must sign the registration form in the presence of two precinct election officers from different political parties and their names are added to both the precinct poll list and county voter registration records.

• Individuals registering at the polls who cannot present required documentation may cast a provisional ballot if they file a copy of the documentation with the precinct election board or county voter registration office within the prescribed timeframe.

• Effective July 1, 2018; modifies Indiana Code sections addressing voter registration, absent uniformed services voters, poll access, and provisional ballot procedures.
