National FFA was established in 1928 and Indiana FFA in 1929, with National FFA representing 653,359 members across 8,568 chapters in 50 states and two U.S. territories, while Indiana FFA has over 12,500 members in 206 chapters.

FFA's motto of "Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve" guides the organization's focus on developing agricultural leaders, promoting agriculture as a career, and fostering leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.

The organization's directive includes developing agricultural leaders, increasing agricultural awareness, promoting agricultural experience programs, developing interpersonal skills and character, and encouraging excellence in scholarship.

FFA Week, started in 1947, is celebrated February 17-24 as an opportunity for members, alumni, and sponsors to advocate for agricultural education and the organization.

The Indiana General Assembly recognizes FFA as an integral part of agricultural education both locally and nationally, and directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit copies of the resolution to Indiana FFA state officers.
