Pioneer Junior-Senior High School football team completed the 2017 season with 15 wins and zero losses and won the IHSAA Class A state championship with a final score of 42-14 against Eastern Greene High School at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Junior quarterback Jack Kiser scored two 2-yard rushing touchdowns in the first and second quarters, a 53-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, and an 18-yard touchdown pass to freshman running back Ezra Lewellen with 0:05 left in the second quarter.

Sophomore running back Miles VonToble caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Kiser, and junior fullback Daniel Gregorich scored a 30-yard rushing touchdown; senior kicker Matthew Musbaum made all six extra point attempts.

Panther defense recorded 53 solo tackles, 26 assists, 5 tackles for a loss, and 3.5 sacks; senior offensive lineman Garrett Schroder won the Blake Ress Mental Attitude Award.

This championship is the team's second overall football state championship title, third state championship game appearance in four years, and first championship since 1997; the Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of the resolution to the team.
