Jennifer Nicole Rice was born November 14, 1984, in Danville, Illinois and died from brain cancer on December 23, 2017, at age 33 in Arlington, Virginia.

Rice was a talented dancer and instructor who studied dance from age eight, learned ballroom and Irish step dances, and performed internationally as leader of the Damas dance team.

Rice graduated from Indiana University with a custom degree in Latin American and Caribbean dance, earned a Master of Public Affairs degree in 2014 from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs, and served as an intern for Senator Tim Lanane during the 2012 Indiana General Assembly session.

Rice worked as a trade and industry analyst at the U.S. Department of Commerce and held positions including internships with the Marion County Election Board and the Atlantic Council; she was a graduate assistant with the IU Public Policy Institute and received the Robert Shuman Fellowship from the European Parliament Liaison Office.

The Indiana Senate expresses sympathy and condolences to Rice's survivors: fiancé Angelo Bardales, father George (Sherri) Rice, mother Julie C. Harris, brother Chris (Elizabeth Groth) Rice, niece Flora Rice, and dog Miquelito; copies of the resolution shall be transmitted to these family members.
